Maa Kali remark: BJP files police complaint against Mahua Moitra, TMC MP says 'bring it on'

Kolkata/IBNS: A number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members have filed police complaints against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments calling goddess Kali "meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess".

As per information accessed by India Blooms, BJP Mahila Morcha president Tanuja Chakraborty has filed a complaint at Bowbazar Police Station.

BJP MLA and advocate Vivekananda Bauri has filed a similar complaint at Raghunathpur Police Station.

Taking the complaints head-on, Moitra tweeted, "Bring it on BJP! Am a Kali worshipper. I am not afraid of anything. Not your ignoramuses. Not your goons. Not your police. And most certainly not your trolls. Truth doesn’t need back up forces."

She said in another tweet, "Jai Ma Kali! The goddess Bengalis worship is fearless & non-appeasing."

Jai Ma Kali!

The goddess Bengalis worship is fearless & non-appeasing.

Moitra made the comment in response to the controversy over a film poster showing goddess Kali as a cigarette smoker.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave East 2022, Moitra, who is an MP from West Bengal's Krishnanagar, said Tuesday, "Kaali to me, is a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess. You have the freedom to imagine your goddess.

"There are some places where whiskey is offered to gods and in some other places it would be blasphemy."

Distancing itself from the remark, the ruling party of West Bengal has put up a tweet which reads, "The comments made by @MahuaMoitra at the #IndiaTodayConclaveEast2022 and her views expressed on Goddess Kali have been made in her personal capacity and are NOT ENDORSED BY THE PARTY in ANY MANNER OR FORM.

"All India Trinamool Congress strongly condemns such comments."

The poster of a documentary titled Kaali is creating quite a stir online for showing the Hindu goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette.

It all started after the director, Leena Manimekalai, shared the poster of the film on Twitter.
