‘They torture me here’: Tamil Nadu woman in Kuwait pleads for rescue, says salary withheld for 2 months

The woman, identified as Vanitha from Kallakurichi district, made an emotional appeal to the district Collector and Superintendent of Police, seeking help to return to India.

In the video, Vanitha, with her head covered in a scarf and appearing to speak from a confined room, is seen folding her hands while making the plea.

“My name is Vanitha, and I am from Kallakurichi district. It's been three months since I came overseas. They torture me here," she said.

"I appeal to the Collector madam and Superintendent of Police madam to rescue me and get me to India, my motherland. They've not paid my salary over the past two months. I can't stand it anymore,” the woman added.

Kallakurichi authorities trace woman’s family

The video came to the attention of Tamil Nadu authorities, who confirmed Vanitha’s identity and traced her mother and other family members in Kallakurichi.

Her family subsequently lodged a complaint seeking intervention to secure her rescue and facilitate her return to India.

Vanitha’s mother, Vennila, alleged that an agent had deceived her daughter after arranging employment for her in Kuwait.

According to Vennila, Vanitha travelled to Kuwait with the expectation of working as a domestic help.

Instead, the family alleges that she has faced mistreatment and has gone without her wages.

“The agent cheated her. She has a son and a daughter. They took her for domestic work but they torture her. Please get my daughter home alive, Madam Collector. I ask you with folded hands,” Vennila said.

Police coordinate efforts for her return

Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police Shahnaz said the authorities had verified that Vanitha belonged to the district and had established contact with her family.

“We have confirmed Vanitha is from this district. We have located her family and received a complaint. We have connected them with the right authorities to follow it up and rescue her,” Shahnaz told the media.

The authorities are now working with the relevant agencies to pursue Vanitha’s rescue and facilitate her return to India.

The allegations have brought renewed attention to the difficulties faced by Indian workers employed overseas, particularly those who depend on recruitment agents to secure domestic work in Gulf countries.
