Mumbai/IBNS: Amid the spike in COVID-19 cases and the Omicron spread, the Maharashtra government has imposed fresh preventive measures, restricting gatherings of five or more between 9 pm and 6 am.

The new guidelines, which will come into effect from midnight, restrict attendance at indoor weddings to 100 people and not more than 250 people or 25 per cent whichever is less in case of outdoor weddings.

Indoor venues like gyms, spas, hotels, theatres and cinema halls will be allowed to function with 50 percent capacity while sports events will be allowed to have 25 percent occupancy.

This comes as Mumbai reported 680 new cases, which is a 78-day high, while  Maharashtra has 88.

India has recorded a total of 358 Omicron Covid cases so far, the government said.

The tally of Omicron infections reported in Maharashtra rose to 108 on Friday with 20 cases of the new coronavirus variant coming to light, reports said.
