Hassan (Karnataka)/UNI: A man killed his estranged wife on the premises of a family court in Karnataka by allegedly slitting her neck on Saturday, according to police.

The woman's neck was slit by her husband Shivakumar with a knife inside the washroom on the court premises. Chaitra was declared dead by the doctors of the city hospital.

The couple had come to the court at Hole Narasipura for a hearing in a divorce case.

Taking cognisance of the submissions made by the parties, the judge counselled them for an hour and postponed the hearing to another day.

The police took Shivakumar into custody.

A case has been registered against Shivakumar under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for further legal proceedings.

The police will also investigate how the assailant brought the knife inside the court, the police said.
