Martyred Indian army captains laid to rest with full military honours

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IBNS) The mortal remains of Captain Pawan Kumar and Captain Tushar Mahajan- who were martyred fighting terrorists in Kashmir- were taken to their respective home towns in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir for cremation on Monday.

Even the martyrdom of a fellow Jat while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir could not deter the protesters demanding job quota in Haryana and Indian army had to fly in the mortal remains of Captain Pawan Kumar on Monday for the last rites to be performed at the soldier's home town in Jind as many roads remained blocked in the state .

The last rites of Captain Pawan Kumar were performed with full military honours by the army and state administration.

According to the local media, hearing of his son's death, Captain Pawan Kumar's father Rajbir Singh, had said, “I had one child, I gave him to the Army and to the nation. No father can be prouder.”

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted "Saluting Capt. Pawan Kumar, Haryana's braveheart who had attained martyrdom leading an operation against terrorists in J&K. Jai Hind."

Actor Anupam Khar too tweeted his condolence "Capt. Pawan Kumar ! Nation Salutes your courage and sacrifice. My heartfelt condolences to his family."

Earlier, Union minister and Olympic medallist Rajyavardah Rathore, a military veteran himself, had tweeted "Where Father doesn't mourn but is proud of martyr son, where soldiers put Nation above personal duties. Proud 2 b Indian. RIP Capt Pawan Kumar."   

The three Army para-commandos, Captain Pawan Kumar, Captain Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Om Prakash, were killed while trying to enter the Entrepreneurship Development Institute to flush out the terrorists, according to media reports.

The last rites of Captain Tushar Mahajan, who was from Udhampur in J&K, will be performed at his home town on Monday evening.

In Udhampur, senior army officers, including General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Northern Commanding, Lt Gen D S Hooda and other officers attended the wreath laying ceremony at the Headquarters of Northern Command.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DIG Udhampur-Reasi range, SSP Udhampur besides other officials of the police and civil administration also paid tributes.

Tweeted Rathore, "Life had only begun.. for so young Capt Tushar Mahajan, He has shown us what supreme sacrifice connotes..RIP my brother".

The encounter with terrorists in Pampore in J &K has been raging for 40 hours now and the army has decided to tackle things more cautiously to prevent loss of life, according to media reports.
