Matter has been taken up at the highest level: India says on China's move over Lakhvi's release

New Delhi, June 23 (IBNS) With China blocking India's move in the UN to seek action against Pakistan over releasing LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi from jail, the country on Tuesday said it has taken up the matter at the highest level.

In a statement, India's MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said: "Government had taken up the issue of violation of the 1267 sanctions regime in respect of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi."

"Our concerns in this matter were conveyed to the Chair of the 1267 Committee. We also raised this bilaterally with the other member of the Committee. In the case of China, this matter has been taken up at the highest level,’’ read the statement.

Lakhvi was the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks in 2008.

The 2008 Mumbai attacks were twelve coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The attacks, which drew widespread global condemnation, began on Wednesday, Nov 26, 2008 and lasted until Saturday, Nov 29, 2008, killing 164 people and wounding at least 308.

Eight of the attacks occurred in South Mumbai - at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital (a women and children's hospital), the Nariman House Jewish community centre, the Metro Cinema, and a lane behind the Times of India building and St. Xavier's College.

There was also an explosion at Mazagaon, in Mumbai's port area, and in a taxi at Vile Parle.
