Modi govt's attitude is anti-poor: Sonia
New Delhi, Apr 19 (IBNS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of abandoning the farmers, and said the central government's attitude is anti-poor.
"Modi government's attitude is totally anti-farmer and anti-poor," Sonia said while addressing the Congress's mega "Kisan Khet Mazdoor" rally in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.
She said the government is reducing the budgetary allocations for all social sector schemes.
"The changes made by the BJP government in Land Bill is only to benefit corporates," said Sonia.
"States under UPA would give bonus to farmers in addition to the MSP, but Modi government has stopped that," she said adding that: "Modi government is sprinkling salt on your wounds, relief announced by him for farmers affected by hailstorm is worthless."
However, during her address several farmers were seen leaving the venue bringing some embarrassment for the Congress party.
Earlier, flexing political muscles after his controversial 57-day-long sabbatical, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi assured the farmers in a rally on Sunday that he will 'fight their battle' while slamming the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and saying that the Prime Minister aims in making the base of India weak by his 'pro-corporate' measures.
The rally was seen as a big boost for the Congress party which was decimated in the last year general elections.
