New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS): Paying a short and sudden visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Friday.

He also attended Sharif's home in Lahore where his grand-daughter's wedding is being held.

"Family matters. PM visits PM Sharif's home in a special gesture, where his grand-daughter's wedding is being held," MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

The two PM's also flew together to Sharif's residence in a chopper after landing in the neighbouring nation where the Pakistan PM had welcomed his Indian counterpart with a hug.

"In a first, both PMs flew together in chopper to Raiwind, home of PM Nawaz Sharif," Swarup tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Modi spoke to Sharif and wished him on his birthday.

"Spoke to PM Nawaz Sharif and wished him on his birthday," the PM said.

"Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi," Modi tweeted.

He reached Pakistan on his way back to India after visiting Afghanistan.
