Navjot Sidhu humiliates Congress, says 'Bhagwant Mann unfurled anti-mafia era in Punjab'

Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday embarrassed his party praising its rival and new Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for "unfurling anti-mafia era" in the state.

Sidhu tweeted, "The happiest man is the one from whom no one expects … Bhagwant Mann unfurls a new anti - Mafia era in Punjab with a mountain of expectations …hope he rises to the occasion , brings back Punjab on the revival path with pro - people policies … best always."

Following the defeat, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi had asked her party chiefs in all five states, where elections were recently held, to resign.

Sidhu too resigned as per Gandhi's direction.

Sidhu's drastic steps had earlier too embarrassed the grand old party on several occasions.

Despite the appointment of his right-hand man Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Minister last year, Sidhu, a cricketer-turned politician, had surprised all by resigning on one afternoon.

However, later he took back his resignation.

In the recently concluded state polls in Punjab, the Congress was routed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won a whooping 92 of 117 assembly seats.

The Congress has been reduced to just 18 seats in the border state, which was its bastion.
