New Delhi, June 19 (IBNS): The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has organized an expedition from Ghaziabad to Kedarnath to pay homage to nine brave hearts of NDRF who laid down their lives in the line of duty on June 25, 2013 while rescuing flood victims at Kedarnath.

The expedition team was flagged off by the Inspector General, NDRF, Sandeep Rai Rathore from Ghaziabad Friday. The forty specially selected officers and other ranks of NDRF from all 10 Battalions of NDRF will travel from Ghaziabad to Kedarnath by road to mark the 2nd anniversary in order to pay homage to the brave hearts.

The expedition team will reach Kedarnath on  June 24 and after paying homage to martyrs it will return back to Ghaziabad.

It is mentioned that in the year 2013 Kedarnath tragedy was a big horrible disaster in which thousands of pilgrims lost their lives and many were compelled to wander in the hostile terrain of Himalayas.

The tragedy became worse as the nature broke down all the communication facilities and all the approaches which could have helped the victims to reach to the safer places. In such circumstances, the NDRF was given responsibility to rescue the victims, trapped in various places in Kedarnath valley. NDRF personnel rescued 9,647 hapless victims from Kedarnath Valley in this disaster.

On  June, 25 2013 the nine brave hearts of NDRF while rescuing the victims laid down their life in the line of duty.
