Patna, June 8 (IBNS) Once bitter foes, the Janata Dal (U) of Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal of Lalu Prasad on Monday confirmed their alliance as part of a broad-based platform taking along the Congress and the Samajwadi Party to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA in the Bihar assembly elections this year.

The alliance was decided by the top leadership of both parties and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday.

Addressing a media conference on Monday, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar said, "The  JDU government is being supported by the  Congress,  RJD and the Communist Party of India."

He said in the by-elections the Congress and the RJD coordinated with the JDU.

"Congress is definitely involved in the talks over the Bihar polls", he said.

"We discussed various matters with Rahul Gandhi but nothing that would interest you."

Talking about seat-sharing for state assembly polls, Kumar said, "Each party will nominate three people each and they will sit and talk on all issues," he said.

"Everyone can see that the electricity situation in the state has improved. They (the Opposition) are used to lying, can't they see?
On land bill - We will protest against the ordinance across the state."

On Sunday, SP’s floor leader in Rajya Sabha Ram Gopal Yadav had announced the alliance after a two-hour meeting at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence.

Prior to the meeting, Nitish met with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi at the latter’s residence for about an hour.
