Varanasi, Jul 16 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's one-day trip to his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi has been cancelled due to heavy rainfall, reports said.

He was scheduled to address a public rally, inaugurate a power project and open a trauma centre at the Banaras Hindu University on Thursday afternoon.

But since it has  been raining heavily in Varanasi since morning his programmes have been called off.

Earlier, Modi's planned rally to Varanasi was cancelled on June 28 due to heavy downpour that left the venue, DLW ground waterlogged. fo

On Thursday, efforts were made to pump out the accumulated water from DLW ground, but it did not work since rain continued.

The PM was to land at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur in a special plane at  3 pm
