PM, President greet nation on Mahavir Jayanti

New Delhi, Apr 2 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the nation on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

Mukherjee tweeted: "Greetings & good wishes on Mahavir Jayanti to all my fellow citizens & in particular, members of Jain community.Teachings of ahimsa, truth & compassion enunciated by Bhagwan Mahavira hold great significance for today’s world. Let us resolve to ceaselessly strive for harmony & amity in our country & across the world on this auspicious day."

PM Modi on the other hand wished the nation as he tweeted: "On Mahavir Jayanti I bow to the venerable Lord Mahavir, who showed the path of peace & welfare for entire humanity."

The festival celebrates the birth of Mahavira, twenty fourth and the last Tirthankara of present time cycle.
