Political leaders condole the death of JK CM Mufti

New Delhi, Jan 7 (IBNS) Condolences are pouring in from leaders across the country following the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, as preparations are being made to take the CM's body to Srinagar for the funeral.

Vice President of India, in his message said, "An eminent statesman and a popular leader, Mufti Sayeed made immense contribution to the progress and welfare of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He was a consensus builder and always placed the nation's interest ahead of every other consideration. His death is an irreparable loss to the people of India."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Mufti Sahab's demise leaves a huge void in the nation & in J&K, where his exemplary leadership had a major impact on people's lives. RIP. What stood out about Mufti Sahab was his statesmanship."

"In his long political journey he won many admirers across the political spectrum. Mufti Sahab provided a healing touch to J&K through his leadership. He will be missed by all of us. Condolences to his family & supporters”, the Prime Minister said.

Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir told IBNS: "It is a shocking news that  Mufti is no more."

Union Home Minister  Rajnath Singh, who will be attending the funeral in Srinagar, said, "Mufti Sayeed ji had a wonderful understanding of complex issues pertaining to J&K. He wanted to bring permanent peace to the valley. The demise of Mufti Sayeed is an irreparable loss to Jammu and Kashmir."

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Saddened to hear about passing away of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed ji. My condolences to his family, people of J&K and party colleagues."

Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, in his condolence message said: “Mufti Sahib was a man of great vision. He always worked to strengthen democratic values. His demise is great loss for the nation, especially for J&K. His exemplary leadership and passion for people’s welfare will be remembered long.”

Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away at AIIMS in New Delhi on Thursday at age 79, succumbing to a lung infection.
