Russia targeted Ukraine with jet-powered drones when Jaishankar visited Kyiv, Zelenskyy claims

“Today, when the minister was with us in Kyiv, Russia once again launched jet-powered ‘Shaheds,’ which were not created without Iran’s assistance. Thanks to our combat aviation, the delegation was safe, because it is Ukrainian fighters that shoot down the majority of such drones,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Following his meeting with Jaishankar, Zelenskyy said he was grateful to India for its commitment to efforts aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Jaishankar, meanwhile, said his discussions with the Ukrainian president focused on ways to end the ongoing war.

“Our conversation centered on approaches to end the ongoing conflict,” Jaishankar wrote on X.

Jaishankar is currently on a two-country visit to Ukraine and Poland from September 3 to 5.

During his meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv, Jaishankar also highlighted the death of an Indian national in the ongoing conflict.

“Only two days ago, an Indian national was also killed in an attack in Kyiv. We join in mourning every life lost and convey our deepest sympathy to every affected family,” he said.

Jaishankar said India was ready to provide any assistance that could contribute to ending the conflict.

“Every passing day of conflict only means more deaths and more destruction. Understandably, it is for the parties involved to find a way. But, if India can be of any help in any manner, we are ready, and this was the core of my discussion so far with Foreign Minister Sybiha,” he said.

Jaishankar’s visit to Kyiv comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek.

During their meeting, Modi and Putin discussed India-Russia relations and ways to further expand economic cooperation.

Modi reiterated India’s support for efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and said New Delhi would continue to back initiatives towards that goal.

“India advocates for resolving all problems peacefully, which is necessary for all of humanity,” Modi said in a joint statement with Putin.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that all outstanding issues should be addressed through peaceful means.
