Saradha: CBI to quiz Madan Mitra in jail
Kolkata, Dec 21 (IBNS): Granting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s appeal, a local court in Kolkata on Monday gave the agency permission to interrogate former cabinet minister Madan Mitra and businessman Santanu Ghosh in jail, in connection with the Saradha financial scam.
The central probe agency on Saturday appealed to the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipore Court in Kolkata to give them permission to quiz Madan Mitra and Santanu Ghosh in jail.
Allowing the CBI's appeal, the court on Monday directed the probe agency to grill Madan Mitra and Santanu Ghosh in jail by Dec 31, in the presence of accused's lawyers.
"We have collected few new evidences and received few important information from Shankudeb Pand regarding Saradha case. We want to interrogate Madan Gopal Mitra and Santanu Sen to verify those," one CBI official told IBNS.
The CBI will also grill former union minister Matang Sinh and his estranged wife Manoranjana Sinh soon, the source further revealed.
The CBI arrested former cabinet minister Madan Mitra and former cabinet minister Matang Sinh on Dec 12 last year and Jan 31 respectively and Matang Sinh's estranged wife Manoranjana Sinh and Kolkata-based businessman Santanu Ghosh were arrested on Oct 7 in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. They all are in judicial custody.
