Kolkata, Jun 25 (IBNS): The Alipore District Sessions court on Thursday rejected the bail of jailed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Madan Mitra.
The lawyers of Mitra appealed for their client's bail and presented him as an MLA in the court.

Mitra's lawyer Milan Mukherjee told the judge: "There are many influential persons who were involved in the scam. But they are free and only our client has been arrested !"

The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI)'s lawyer said that Mitra was a very influential person and he could influence the investigation process if gets bail.

"He is being treated in the VVIP unit of WB's only super speciality hospital SSKM for last few months and he is still the cabinet minister. So, his influences have been proved," he added.

After listening to both sides, additional district judge Laxmi Kanta Das rejected Mitra's bail.

After a marathon five hours of questioning, the CBI had arrested Madan Mitra on Dec 12 in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

He is in judicial custody and hospitalised.
