SC bench allows Make in India programme to be held at Mumbai beach
Mumbai, Feb 3 (IBNS): A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice M Y Eqwal, on Wednesday, has allowed the Maharashtra government to use Mumbai's Girgaum Chowpatty beach to hold the Make in India programme that will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to media reports.
The Bombay High Court (HC) on Jan 28 had stayed the holding of the programme, to be held from February 13 to 18, at the beach; the programme is expected to be attended by dignitaries from 58 countries.
In 2005, the HC had appointed a committee to monitor activities on the beach; the committee had asked the Maharashtra government to file an application with the HC.
The state government wanted to set up the stage and other facilities on the beach.
