Kolkata, Jun 1 (IBNS): An activist of Student Federation of India (SFI) was allegedly beaten up by few Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) members in Kolkata's Asutosh College, reports said.

According to reports, Rituparna Roy, a Geology 2nd Year student of Asutosh College and active SFI member, claimed that few TMCP activists, led by BA General student Sayantani Kar aka Candy, beaten up badly in the college campus on May 27.

"I was assaulted, kicked and punched by several TMCP activists, led by Sayantani Kar, inside students' union room for more than two hours on May 27, for being a part of SFI. Today, I went to Bhawanipore Police Station and lodged complaint against six attackers. Police did not give me any FIR number. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station told me that my FIR could not be registered as I lodged complaint five days after the incident," Rituparna Roy told IBNS.

Police, however, said that an investigation had been started into the matter and they would examine college's CCTV footage to verify the complaint.

Meanwhile, accused Sayantani Kar denied her involvement in the incident.

Asutosh College's TMCP-ruled students' union's General Secretary Subha Dutta told IBNS that he did not have any idea about the incident.

The principal of the college, Dipak Kar told IBNS, "I have not been informed about such incident so far. I am not aware of it. No verbal or written complaint has not been submitted yet. I will check if any such incident took place in the college campus."

However, TMCP leaderships said that they would look into the matter.

"We will look into the matter. TMCP does not support such actions. If we find someone of TMCP committed the attack, we will take strictest actions against him/her," TMCP's state president Jaya Dutta told IBNS.
