Stalemate in Parliament continues :Both Houses adjourned for the day

Both houses of Parliament were first adjourned till noon. But even after resumption things did not improve and the lower  house was adjourned for the day shortly after noon  as the opposition  refused to let the House function.

"We want justice," the Congress members kept shouting reiterating their demand for resignation of  External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj allegedly for helping out former Indian Premier League boss Lalit Modi, accused of indulging in scams during his tenure.

The opposition has also been demanding removal of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for her alleged links with Lalit Modi and her Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the Vyapam scam.

The opposition protest intensified and led to the final adjournment of Lok Sabha after BJP Chief whip Arjun Meghwad  moved a privilege motion saying Robert Vadra has insulted Parliament and the Parliamentarians. "Action must be taken against Vadra," he said fuelling thunderous protests from the Congress.

During the day the Rajya Sabha, where the opposition is in the majority, faced adjournment thrice, the last being for the day few minutes after proceedings resumed at 2 pm.

Congress leader Anand Sharma says they will not let Rajya Sabha function at any cost.

Scenes of continued uproar prevailed in both houses as a recalcitrant opposition stuck to its demands, but the government said: "discuss or disrupt, there will be no resignation."

In a counter to the Congress-led onslaught on the government on issues like Lalit Modi and Vyapam scam the BJP gave  notices in both houses to take corruption issues in Congress-ruled states.

The Congress, on the other hand, gave an adjournment notice seeking government's reply on scandals. 

The Thursday is the third day of the monsoon session of Parliament which is supposed to take up a string of important bills.

The first two days were a wash out because of the unrelenting battle between the ruling BJP and the Congress-led opposition.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been facing repeated disruptions and the houses are unable to keep up scheduled business because of opposition's ruckus in Parliament over the Lalit Modi issue and Vyapam scam.

Congress MPs on Wednesday shouted slogans, wore black bands and waved anti-Modi posters as  they continued their demand for the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the Lalit Modi row.
