Tanzania student molestation case: African students stage protests, demand better protection
The assault of the Tanzanian student took place on Sunday evening after a mob enraged by an accident where a Sudanese driver had mowed down a woman, stopped her car while she was driving past the scene.
According to the complaints, she lodged the attackers, dragged her out of the car before setting it ablaze as hundreds assaulted her and her two friends.
She was stripped and was later maltreated when she and her friends boarded a bus, reports said.
While bringing in battery charges against the mob, she also said that the police had reached the spot but was inactive the whole time.
Today's protest saw African students unite against the incident and lodge a protest in the city's Town Hall under the banner of Union of African Communities of Bengaluru, the India Today reported.
Earlier yesterday, the High Commissioner of Tanzania led a delegation team to Bangalore to check on the girl and the incident.
He had termed the incident racist, but has urged the students to make peace with the people and follow the Indian law.
Amidst all the violence, the Karnataka government have downplayed the incident, disowning reports that the girl was stripped naked.
Five people have been arrested so far, pertaing to the incident.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj have condemned the incident an have termed it painful.
"We are deeply pained over the shameful incident with a Tanzanian girl in Bengaluru," Swaraj had said in a tweet.
