Tomar's arrest is Centre's attempt to destabilize Delhi govt, claims AAP

New Delhi, June 9 (IBNS): Hours after Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested by the Delhi Police on Tuesday on charges of possessing a fake law degree, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that this was an attempt by the Narendra Modi government at Centre to destabilize the AAP government .
Calling the arrest an emergency like situation in the national capital, senior AAP leader Ashutosh said, "This is an attempt by the Narendra Modi government through the lieutenant governor to destabilize the AAP government in Delhi."

Accusing the Modi government of taking revenge against the AAP party for winning the Delhi Assembly elections, he said the arrest was a "well crafted strategy."

Tomar was in a meeting in his constituency when police arrested him and took him away.

Reports said he was taken to the Hauz Khas Police station.

Ashutosh said that the arrest was illegal as Tomar was not informed despite being a minister and was manhanled.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, during a press conference, said, "We are being targetted for controlling corruption. Attempts are being made to weaken the Anti Corruption Branch. The arrest of Tomar was illegal. It has been done to create an emergency like situation in Delhi."

He also alleged that Tomar was treated like a "mafia."

After being detained by the police, Tomar told media that he was arrested as a result of "political vendetta."

AAP's Kumar Vishwas also said the BJP is scared of AAP.

The BJP and the Congress, meanwhile, said AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would have sacked him before.

Even senior Congress leader Ajay Maken demanded that Kejirwal should take responsibility of this alleged forgery and resign from his post.

Congress leader Kiran Walia said it was a doublespeak of Kejriwal since he had himself said no one is above law.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh tweeted that Tomar was arrested without prior notice.

Following the arrest, AAP activists are protesting outside the police station.

According to reports, Tomar has been charged under various IPC sections including 420 (cheating). He has also been charged under IPC sections 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery with purpose of cheating) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).

Bihar-based Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University had informed the Delhi High Court that Tomar's law degree is fabricated. The institute had claimed that Tomar's law degree does not exist in their records.
