At least 30 people are believed to have been trapped after the roof of a tunnel in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district collapsed on Saturday.

Rescue operation is currently underway.

The construction firm has sent an assessment team inside for more details, police told NDTV.

The portion of the tunnel collapsed behind the Srisailam dam when some workers went inside to repair a leak.

Three workers, who were trapped inside the tunnel, managed to escape from the spot.

A rescue mission is currently underway to pull out the trapped people.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the incident.

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy wrote on X: "I am investigating the SLBC tunnel accident that happened today. I spoke to the authorities and inquired about the accident. I have instructed the authorities to provide emergency treatment to the injured and to bring out those trapped in this accident safely."
