Srinagar, July 25 (IBNS) At least two children were killed and 11 others were injured in cloudburst that hit the Baltal area near the base camp of Amarnath Yatra in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district late Friday night, police said on Saturday.

“Two children aged 11 and 13 were killed by a cloudburst that hit the area near the Amarnath Yatra base camp late last night,” a police officer said.

Seventeen shops, thirty tents, eighteen vehicles were damaged and six ponies were washed away in the floods.

Multiple cloudbursts had killed three people on July 16 in Kulan village on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the route used by the pilgrims to the Baltal base camp.

Officials of the civil administration, besides the police, the army and the CRPF, have undertaken a rescue operation.

The Srinagar-Leh highway passing through the area has been temporarily closed.
