Two poachers gunned down in Kaziranga

Guwahati, Nov 20 (IBNS): Two poachers were gunned down in Assam's Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Friday in a gun fight with forest guards and Special Task Force (STF), officials said.
The incident took place at Bagori range of the park on Friday morning.
 
“We have informed about the presence of five poachers who entered in the park to kill rhino and forest guards, Special Task Force jawans jointly launched operation. When security personnel had found the poacher group presence location poachers started firing and bullets were exchanged in which two poachers killed on spot,” a top official of the national park said.
 
Three poachers have managed to flee from the area.
 
Security personnel have recovered arms, ammunition and other equipments from the slain poachers.
 
Security personnel launched an operation to nab the fled poachers.
 
Forest guards have killed 21 poachers and nab 78 others in the state in this year so far.
 
Poachers had killed at least 22 one horned rhinos in the state in this year so far.
 
Assam Forest Minister Atuwa Munda had directed to the forest officials to take stern action against the poachers.
