Prayagraj/UNI: Allahabad High Court on Saturday rejected petitions seeking permission to allow Muharram procession and burial of Tazias in Uttar Pradesh.

A division bench of the court comprising Justice Sashikant Gupta and Shamim Ahmed rejected the petition of one Roshan Khan and several other PILs saying that the restrictions will remain in place on all religious function in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The judges also did not accept the arguments of the petitioners that the government was targeting a "particular community" by banning Muharram processions.

"The ban on Muharram procession was entirely due to the pandemic and there was no question of any community being targeted," the court said.
