Vice-President mourns PA Sangma's death

New Delhi, Mar 4 (IBNS) Vice President M. Hamid Ansari has condoled the death of former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri P.A. Sangma, here on Friday.

“I am deeply grieved to learn about the demise of Shri P. A. Sangma, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha. A member of the Lok Sabha for eight terms, Shri Sangma served with distinction as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya and while leading the various Ministries in the Union Government. He championed the mainstreaming of the North-Eastern parts of the country and worked tirelessly for the uplift and improvement of Tribal communities," Ansari said.

"I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved members of the family and join the nation in praying for eternal peace for the departed soul,” he said.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker and a prominent politician from the Northeast, Purno Agitok Sangma, died on Fridayfrom heart attack here. He was 68.
