WB: CBI raids in chit fund offices

Kolkata, Aug 14 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) conducted raids at the offices of Suraha Sunmarg Micro Finance Pvt Ltd and its directors' houses in several locations across West Bengal on Friday, sources said.
One CBI official told IBNS: "We have conducted raids at 15 locations in West Bengal including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas districts. We also raided two offices of this company in Gaya and Mumbai."
 
The CBI also have seized few documents from those offices.
 
According to reports, ignoring the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)'s interdiction, Suraha Sunmarg Micro Finance Ltd collected at least 2500 Cr rupees from depositors and it had offices in 10 states including West Bengal, Orrisa, Jharkhand and Tripura.
 
After getting direction from the Supreme Court, the CBI is probing 44 chit fund companies. Suraha Sunmarg Micro Finance Ltd is one of the 44 companies involved in money rising activities.
