Kolkata, Apr 1 (IBNS) The West Bengal Government on Wednesday declared a ban on firebrand Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia from entering the state.
A press note issued by the state's home department said the ban would be strictly followed throughout West Bengal.

"These orders have been issued by the respective district magistrates/commissioners of police on the basis of information available with them. They apprehend that the entry of Dr.Praveen Bhai Togadia, his holding closed door or public meetings/rallies will lead to communal tension and this would cause disturbance of the public tranquility," the press note said.

The order has been signed by Additional Chief Secretary and Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee.

West Bengal is the third state to ban the entry of the controversial VHP working president after Karnataka and Assam had taken a similar move.

The VHP is a constituent of the saffron brigade of the BJP, which has been preparing aggressively for the West Bengal elections, due next year.
