World is seeing India as a land of hopes and power: Modi tells Wembley
Modi addressed at the Wembley Stadium in London where a huge crowd had assembled to hear his speech.
As Modi was given a rockstar welcome in the stadium by the Indian community members, UK PM David Cameron introduced him to the crowd and announced his nation is supporting India's bid for a permanent seat at the UNSC.
He also referred to Modi's catch phrase and said: "They said 'Acche Din Aane Waale Hai', under Modi 'Acche Din Zaroor Ayenge' (Under PM Modi, good times are surely going to come)."
Addressing the 60,000 members of the Indian community, Modi, who visited the UK after 12 years, said: "World is seeing India as a land of many opportunities."
"I feel that India should share same space in the world with other nations," he said as the crowd cheered aloud during his address.
Modi said India is moving in the right path of development.
"The pace and direction of progress in India is such that the fruits of development will be seen very soon," Modi said.
He said India has no reason to remain poor.
"Such a youthful nation like India cannot lag behind in development," Modi said.
"India has no reason to remain poor. I can say that after my experience during the last 18 months," he said.
He said David Cameron praised the Indian community staying in the UK whenever the Prime Ministers met in the past.
"I want to thank PM David Cameron and acknowledge the affection he has towards India," Modi said.
Modi said diversity of India is a pride of the countrymen.
He said he met the Sikh community on the first day of his trip to the UK.
"I met the Sikh community. We shared our thoughts on various subjects. I understand their pain on some issues as well" Modi said.
Referring to his humble background, Modi said he never thought that a son of a poor tea-seller will be able to hoist Indian flag at the Red Fort.
"I used the moment to speak about Swacch Bharat," Modi said.
"Won't you feel happy if you see the country clean?" he asked the Indian diaspora.
Modi mentioned about several steps taken by his government since coming to power which include the FDI reforms and Make In India initiatives.
He said two dreams on which India is working towards are a 'clean India and India with 24/7 electricity'.
Modi made reference to a person called Imran from Rajasthan's Alwar area who made 50 Apps for mobile which focussed on education.
"There are lakhs of people working among the tribal communities and helping them in fields of education, health," the Indian PM said.
He said OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) procedure will be simplified.
With crowds cheering aloud, Modi announced direct flights between London and Ahmedabad from Dec 15.
"From 15th December, there will be direct flights between London and Ahmedabad," he said.
Modi arrived in the UK on Thursday.
He lunched with the British Queen Elizabeth on Friday.
