After Byomkesh, Arindam Sil now takes up 'bonedi' household puja as film

Kolkata, Jan 19 (IBNS) After a string of whodunit hits from 'Ebar Shabor' to 'Byomkesh Pawrbo', director Arindam Sil now turns his gaze from the dark alley of intrigue and crime to the season of festivities when every Bengali yearns to be back in his home town.

'Durgasahay', his next venture, dwells on the 10 fun-filled days (from Mahalaya to Dasahmi) in a 'Bonedi'' household where beyond the surface of heritage household puja of the Goddess, the undercurrents of tension, turns and twists in family ties, subtle politics in a family are in full play, Arindam tells IBNS here.

"Going out of my previous pattern of larger than life cinema, this film takes a closer view of a family and even I have used different camera shots," Arindam says adding a Durga idol was really worshipped for five days to add real touch to the film.

The film's shoot was wrapped up on January 4 and Arindam is eyeing a 'Bangla Nabobarsho' release.

'Durgasahay' will make the Bengali audience feel 'connected' to the plot as it can be the story of every single household from Kolkata to Kalna as "I don't believe in slotting the audiences," Arindam says adding the film will also project the many-splendoured festival replete with it's colors.

'After 'Utsab' by Rituparno Ghosh, this is another film which is solely themed on Durga Puja at a household capturing the magic of the festival in its true colors. But Durga Sahay deals with a different subject," Arindam says.

Arguing perhaps he understands language of cinema better than many others, he says, "Cinema is primarily a treat for eyes and ear will come later. I believe the language of cinema has to be treated in totality."

The film, which talks about Streeshakti and women's empowerment has its 'Durga' in Priyanka Sarkar (previously Satyabati in Byomkesh Pawrbo) while Tanushree Chakrabarty is also cast in an important female role.

The film has an interesting cast of Kaushik Sen, Indrashish,  Anirban Bhattacharya, Ritabrata Mukherjee.

"Yes Kaushik, Sohini, Anirban had worked with me previously. In fact I feel at ease to work wiith actors having the capacity to portray five different shades in role," he says.
