Anindya Sengupta, Shruti Das gear up for their 'dream debut' with Srijit Mukherji's X=Prem
Bengali actors Anindya Sengupta and Shruti Das, as they say, couldn't have asked for a better debut on the big screens than a film by popular filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. As the release date nears, India Blooms correspondent Souvik Ghosh catches up with the two young actors to know about their excitement for the film based on a love story
You are making your debut with Srijit Mukherji’s film!
Anindya: X=Prem was not in my horizon. I was working with Srijit-da in another film, which hopefully will get released this year. When I was dubbing for that film, I was briefed about X-Prem by Srijit-da. Then I auditioned and finally got the role. So the film is turning out to be my debut release. I couldn’t have asked for a better launch for myself.

Shruti: It's the same for me. It’s a dream debut for me. So in that way, I am happy and trying to trick myself into telling myself that I’m not nervous but excited. The feeling is yet to sink in properly for me. I will go into hiding on 3rd when the film releases as my anxiety will be at peak and I will be petrified at that point of time. Fingers crossed. Hope people will accept the film.
Tell us about your characters?
Shruti: My character Joyee is all heart. It’s a love story with four characters intertwined.
Anindya: My character Khilat is a charming yet arrogant, confident, and at times an overconfident character. Naturally, he has many shades.

How were your tours to the colleges and universities?
Shruti: Ah… lovely! We got very overwhelming reactions during the promotions. People have already mugged up lines of the songs. We feel great. This is a very heart-warming experience.
Anindya: Ditto. Hailing from a middle class background, it is emotionally overwhelming to see people singing songs from the film where I have worked. Watching college students singing the songs with excitement is a gratifying feeling.

Shruti: I got to hear the songs from X=Prem at a cafe which is located near my place. I was overjoyed.
How are your friends reacting to it?
Shruti: Ah, honestly I am not getting any special treatment from my friends (laughs). I have had the same group of friends since college. Of course they are very happy, asking for treats but not giving me any kind of special treatment.

Anindya: I was always fortunate when it came to friendship. Very naturally, my friends are happy and excited but at the same time, my identity to my friends doesn’t change. So my friends will never thankfully let me get detached from reality. People in our profession have a tendency to take oneself too seriously. But thankfully, friends and close people are reminding us that we should not take ourselves too seriously.
How were your college days?
Shruti: Yes I have done all kinds of chatting, getting boisterous, visiting canteens and definitely had love stories.

Anindya: My story was a bit different. I never formally went to college. I didn’t have that opportunity. But my friends, who had studied in colleges, had ensured that I was not deprived of those feelings. Though I cannot relate to a college campus, I am able to relate to the innocence, immaturity, arrogance of that age courtesy my friends.
