Byomkesh according to me is the best Bengali detective series: Anjan Dutt

Kolkata, Sep 24 (IBNS): Director Anjan Dutt while speaking about his upcoming thriller 'Byomkesh O Chiriakhana' on Tuesday, said that he believes Byomkesh is best among the Bengali detective series produced so far.

Kolkata restaurant 'Red Hot Chilli Pepper', to celebrate its 17th birthday, had invited the entire cast and crew of 'Byomkesh O Chiriakhana', the new film of the Byomkesh franchise of Anjan Dutt, starring Jisshu Sengupta in the lead role.

'Chiriakhana', a crime drama based on a story by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, was earlier made by director Satyajit Ray with Uttam Kumar in the role of Byomkesh and  released way back in 1967.

Anjan Dutt said that his film has no resemblance with the Uttam Kumar starrer 'Chirikhana'.

“My film is completely different. There have been lot of films created based on this story, both nationally and internationally. There have been lot of changes in this film keeping the basic story line intact,” the director said.

Jisshu Sengupta, who is playing the role of a detective in Anjan Dutt directorial series of Byomkesh for the second time on screen, said that he didn't feel any pressure to play the character,a role for which Uttam Kumar won a  national award.

He said, “At the back of my mind I knew that the role of Byomkesh was played by a great actor. However, during shooting, I never felt any pressure because Dutt has made the film in his own way.”

“In this film, Byomkesh is shown as an enhanced character and also emotionally different from earlier films,” the actor added.

Saswata Chatterjee is playing the role of Ajit Bandyopadhyay for the fifth time in the Byomkesh franchise of Dutt.

Regarding the film, Saswata said, “Anjan Dutt tried to follow the text and brought something new to this film.”

The film's music director, Neel Dutt, said that music in this film includes “Indian classical elements” which would suit the character of Byomkesh, which has been portrayed in a different light.

The film is expected to release during Durga puja.
