Coffee with D: Debut film of comedian Sunil Grover

Kolkata, Dec 22 (IBNS): Popular television actor and stand-up comedian Sunil Grover was recently in Kolkata for the promotion of his upcoming film Coffee with D, which is releasing on Jan 6, 2017.

An Apex Entertainment production, Coffee with D is directed by Vishal Mishra and produced by Vinod Ramani.

Sunil Grover, popular as the 'Mashoor' doctor from The Kapil Sharma Show will essay the role of a journalist (loosely modelled on journalist Arnab Goswami), who is desperate to interview the notorious D (Dawood Ibrahim) to save his television channel from folding up.

Grover said that his character his called Arnab but that is the director's call. It is not an indication that he will be imitating Arnab Goswami.

“Arnab Goswami is a well-known journalist and I respect him,” said Grover.

Actor Zakir Hussain plays the role of D. Other actors include Dippanita Sharma and Anjana Sukhani.

“This is the first film of 2017 and what better way to start off than by some light hearted comedy,” said Grover.

When asked how comfortable is he playing a male role when people identify more with him as a woman, Grover, who is known for his tongue-and-cheek humor promptly added that nowadays he has to take more preparations in playing a man, while essaying a role of a woman had become easier for him.

“There are times when I am going on stage and I suddenly realise that I have forgotten to put on my lipstick, before reminding myself that I am playing a man now and not a woman. Dressing up as a woman is really difficult though," he said.

Talking about his experience of shooting his debut film, Grover said, “Director Vishal Mishra made us complete the film in the scheduled time and interestingly I did not do much of a rehearsal or preparation for the film. The only thing I regularly had to do was take a shower and report on sets.”

Talking about his relation with Kolkata and the Bengali audience, Grover said, “Bengalis are sweet. Whenever I come to Kolkata, I feel like I was Bengali in my past life.”
