I am lucky to be working with all big Tolly directors: Sayani Ghosh

Kolkata, June 11 (IBNS) On the eve of the release of Tollywood romcom Bawal, where she is the commanding daughter of a reel life don, Aleek Sukh actor Sayani Ghosh is effusive about working with filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee in the period film Rajkahini.

“I am lucky to work with so many big directors in such a short span of time. From a  versatile and celebrated director like Srijit da to a debutant Biswaroop Biswas. From Abhijit Guha-Sudeshna Roy to Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay and John Halder.  This is one of the most happening phases of my life,” Sayani told IBNS here.

Coming to Raj Kahini, where she shares screen space with Rituparna Sengupta, Sayani said, “Ritudi's character is our Godmother in Rajkahini. We all work under her. And she is a sweetheart, gem of a person, my darling co-actor."

“Rajkahini was my first work with Srijit Mukherjee and God he is so unrelenting. Be there storm or torrential rains, our shooting went on. He will never tire unless he extracts the best from you,” Sayani said.

“There is a royal splendor in Rajkahini  in every way – in looks and effect. There are 11 characters of different ages. It was a matter of compliment and great fun,” she said.

Describing her upcoming release Bawal as a nonsense comedy, Sayani said her hair style was different in this flick.  “In Tollywood, the actresses end up as being each others’ clones by sporting the same straight hair style, but Biswaroop wanted me to look the way I am in real life, and also this frizzy  hairdo is more manageable for a working girl, which gels with her everyday image. I sport the same hair style in Aro Ekbar and intend to keep it. It goes with my style statement,” Sayani said.

“There was no brief from the director in Bawal.  He only said do it the way you want. But it should not be unlike you,” she recalled.

“Bawal is in other words a comedy of errors. It is named so since it talks about the present day generation, their love, life and career. You can’t expect Arjun Chakraborty to tell my character in this film “Ami ki tomar preme poriyachhi,” in pure classical Bengali.
Like you don’t expect Parambrata to tell Konkona ‘Jyotidada ki kono bawal korechhe?” in Kadombori. That would be sacrilegious. Every film represents an era and the dialogues reflect that era,,” Sayani, a known name in South film industry, said.

Director Biswaroop said, “I settled for such a name as Bawal is a sweet and simple word. And typical of the present generation. You google the word and you will see how widely used is the term.”

Bawal, produced by K R Movies, also stars Ritabhori and Arjun and will be released on June 12.
