I won't mind flaunting a new gen watch as Byomkesh in a future film: Jisshu Sengupta

Kolkata, Sep 12 (IBNS): Actor Jisshu Sengupta, the new 'Byomkesh Bakshi' in Anjan Dutta's two last portrayals of the popular Bengali sleuth's exploits for big screen, feels the iconic character, trapped in periodicity, should also evolve and start flaunting new gadgets.

"I would have been happier now if Anjanda allowed a new gen wrist watch on his principal character, a watch which would reflect Byomkesh's familiarity with newest gadgets as well as his obsession to look fit and trendy to connect with the Gen Next," Jisshu, the Byomkesh in Anjan's upcoming Byomkesh O  Chiriakhana tells IBNS here.

"While Byomkesh should be rooted to our inherent Bengaliness and stick to periodicity for films based on Saradindu Bandyopadhyay's literary works, any contemporary twist to the character is welcome. I am open to changes so long it doesn't depart from the spirit of the main story," the Last Lear and Naukadubi actor says.

Jisshu says there lies no competition with colleague Abir Chatterjee who had portrayed the sleuth in past Anjan films and Arindam Sil's 'Har Har Byomkesh'

"The more such sleuth films hit the screen with fresh content, the better it will be in the context of reaching out to more audiences."

Launching the JUXT Pro of Titan for the region, the new age watch having features of a mobile, wrist watch and stop clock, Jisshu says "Watch had never been an aceesory it was a necessity."

"For me fashion fabrics and accessories should be something I must look comfortable with,, the popular actor said..

Jisshu, who has appeared in back-to-back Anjan films Byoimkesh Phire Elo, Hemanta (Shakespeare's adaptation of Hamlet) and now upcoming Byomkesh O Chiriakhana, says "Anjanda never interferes during shoots or gets hyper. He is extremely cool."

Having important scenes with Saswat Chatterjee in the two Byomkesh films, and as the confidante of Hamlet (Parambrata Chatterjee) in Hemanta, Jisshu says "After working together with friends like Apuda (Saswata) and Param, there is a certain tuning and chemistry between the three of us and that helps.

"The same tuning remains with Anjanda more as a friend and less as a director or as a friend-director who discusses the characte's length and breadth before every shoot and we feel like giving our own inputs which he readily accepts at times. Such involvement helps," he signs off.
