Interview: Ranbir finds Karan a good actor

| | Apr 19, 2014, at 07:00 pm
Ranbir Kapoor is super excited about his upcoming film Bombay Velvet where he plays a boxer and has been paired opposite Anushka Sharma . TWF correspondent Sreya Basu chats up with the actor in Mumbai

Are you happy with the release date of Bombay Velvet?

Anurag (Kashyap, director-producer) has made the film with a lot of hard work. It was his dream that he had been nurturing for nine years. So it will only be fair if it can be released to a wider audience. It is correct to release the film on Nov 28 when we will get more theatres.

Do you think it would have been risky had the film been released with Aamir Khan's P.K.?

We don’t want to clash with another film. That way, it will be a loss for both the films; we will be affected the most.

How was your experience while shooting Bombay Velvet?

It’s an intense love story set in the background of crime. I was given a great character to play. You will see shades ofScarface, Godfather, Trishul and Deewar.  It was a new world for me. We tried to recreate Bombay in the ‘50s and ‘60s.  I am very excited to see the audience response.

Filmmaker Karan Johar is playing the primary antagonist in the film. What do you have to say about his acting skills?

Karan is a very good actor. I was pleasantly surprised. When he came on the set the first day, I thought how would I handle him as I know him so well personally. I decided to keep laughing with him throughout the shooting of the film. But the kind of gravity he brought on the set, was really surprising. I really learnt a lot from his precision, dedication and hard work.

Once in an interview, you said you love to travel. Do you remember your first holiday with friends?

Of course. After finishing 10th standard in school, me and my friends went to Goa and everybody knows what masti(fun) you have there. That was my first trip on my own and my perception of the whole world changed after that. That was the first time I got to know what are the things you can do when you are on a holiday without parents.

In many of your films we have seen you falling in love while travelling. Has something like that ever happened to you in real life?

See, unlike in films, in real life it hardly happens that you fall in love with someone while travelling together or while holidaying abroad. However, it is a lovely feeling and if any such things happens in future, it will be great for me. I lived all alone in New York for four years. Be it in a bar or a restaurant or a theatre, I used to look at girls but never got a response from any of them. So I am recreating such scenes in my films and living my unfulfilled dreams that way.

Pick a holiday spot that you would like to visit with your girlfriend.

I am ready to visit New York any day, any time, with or without girlfriend.
