Jeet-Nusrat-Abir's film Asur is a tribute to late Indian sculptor Ramkinkar Baij

Kolkata/IBNS: Megastar Jeet's new film Asur is a "tribute to the eminent sculptor Ramkinkar Baiji", said the makers of the movie which also stars Tollywood heavyweights Nusrat Jahan and Abir Chatterjee.

The "Asur" trio Jeet, Nusrat Jahan and Abir Chatterjee on Monday met the media to promote the film.

While talking about his character, Jeet said: "It used to take me hours to get my makeup done for my character. When Pavel (director) narrated me the story, he didn't have the script in his hand. I sketched the whole character in my mind."

Jeet sports the look of a bearded artist with long hair in the film while Abir with his chiselled corporate look in the film essays the role of his friend who studied English literature.

The plot of the movie centres around the relationship between three college friends, Kigan (Jeet), Bodhi (Abir) and Aditi(Nusrat). Kigan is passionate, undeniable and self-destructive to a point but his art forms are unmatchable. He takes upon an ambitious project of creating the world's largest Durga Idol and in this journey, his friend Aditi helps him out.

"All three characters are my favourite, but the character of Aditi is more special to me because you'll hardly see such a character in Bengali cinema," said Pavel, the director of the film.

On being asked, "what would you like to say about your character Aditi", Nusrat said: "I'm very happy to play the role of Aditi, it's not every day that we get to play such a character. This character is very close to my heart. When Pavel narrated the role to me, I was highly impressed by it ".

It is Nusrat Jahan's first onscreen appearance after becoming an MP and getting married.

Shot extensively in Bolpur (Santiniketan), where in Tagore's abode of learning Visva-Bharati University Ramkinkar Baij was a student of fine arts and where his tribal life inspired sculptures like The Santal Family are in display, ‘Asur’ will hit the movie theatres on Jan 3 next.
