Kolkata: Katrina Kaif, Sidharth Malhotra promote Baar Baar Dekho, charm fans

Kolkata, Sept 1 (IBNS): Bollywood actors Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra came down to Kolkata on Wednesday to promote their upcoming movie 'Baar Baar Dekho' and did not miss the oppurtunity to ride a tram in the city.

Katrina appreciated the script of the movie which has been directed by Nitya Mehra.

Speaking about the film, Nitya said: "The film is a glimpse into life through a love story."

"I kept the story and the characters in my mind and I think if you have a strong base of characters, you can take the step," she added.

Nitya, who was the assistant director of the film 'Life of Pie', recounted her experience in the brief press interaction of her working with Sidharth and Katrina in the film that was shot in places like Glasgow and Thailand.

She said: " It has been a brilliant experience. I loved them(Sidharth and Katrina). I fell in love with them because they agreed to work in the film. It became easier for me because I looked at them as my characters and somewhere Diya and Katrina as well as Jai and Sidharth merged. It was really interesting working relation with them. It was a nice social experience as well."

The film will see actors Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif pairing up together for the first time onscreen.

The movie has been produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar.

The film is based on the ageing romance between Jai, acted by Sidharth and Diya acted by Katrina that spans over thirty years.

The Bollywood actor who made his debut in the film 'Student of the Year', Sidharth said that a new genre was enough reason to choose this particular film.

The actor said: "This is a genre that is not tried earlier in any of the Hindi films. This is the first time when we are doing a film like this and it is a great concept so that is enough reason to do a film which is new, not being done before."

Considering 'kala chasma' (black spectacles) as one of the centre of attraction in the film, Katrina said: "I believe 'kala chasma' is going to be a high point in the film. Since our film industry is very much musical so music is an integral part of the films. 'Kala chasma' is such a fun and celebrated song and my favourite after a long time. It is a great conceptualisation by the whole team."

Katrina did reveal the hard work that she had to put in for the toned abs that is visible in some of the songs in the film.

"I had to follow the normal training and gym. You have to be disciplined as well as regular with your training to get it."

Sidharth, who confessed that he was apprehensive to romance with his childhood crush Katrina on screen, praised her saying, "Katrina is a much experienced actress. She never takes stardom for granted and a great co-star."

Regarding the subject of the film, the director Nitya said: "The film is about life and it is a very humane love story. It talks about life, relationships and bonding."

The film is slated to release on Sept 9.
