Kolkata/IBNS: Filmmaker Reshmi Mitra's biopic on pioneer of modern Bengali theatre Shishir Kumar Bhaduri, Borobabu, will get its trailer launch at this year's North America Bengali Conference (NABC).

It was informed by the filmmaker herself at a press conference at Sugar Daddy Pub & Rotisserie in Kolkata earlier this week.

Speaking of the trailer launch, Reshmi said, "A lot of international film festivals have shown interest in this film for screening. NABC wanted to screen Borobabu. Since the film will not be ready by then, they have requested us to launch the trailer at NABC. It's a big achievement for us.

"We are also looking forward to the releases in the US and UK."

Actor Sujan Neel Mukherjee plays the titular role while actors Sudiptaa Chakraborty and Paayel Sarkar play two of the three most significant characters in the film.

Sujan, who feels a biopic on Shishir Bhaduri should have been made much earlier, said, "Reshmi-di deserves credit for making a film on Sishir Bhaduri. I feel a film on him should have been made long ago but somehow other filmmakers had missed it."

"Reshmi-di has been researching to make this film for about 10 years. It's a big achievement for her. I have tried to the best of my ability to portray Borobabu," he added.

The film focuses on the emotional turmoil in the personal life of Bhaduri.

Bhaduri's relationships with Prabha Devi (played by Sudiptaa Chakraborty) and Kankabati (played by Paaye Sarkar) have been explored.

"We all had expectations about work on Sishir Bhaduri. Better late than never. Reshmi-di thought of it and went ahead to make it. I would thank the producer for doing this film," Sudiptaa says.

Among other actors who have played pivotal roles in the film are Supratim Roy, Bhaswar Chatterjee and Biswanath Basu.

Borobabu is expected to get its theatrical release in Kolkata in January-February next year.
