Mumbai, May 10 (IBNS): Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians by 39 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) clash here on Sunday.

AB de Villiers hammered unbeaten 133 while Virat Kohli smashed 82 as RCB posted 235 runs for the loss of a wicket and then the bowlers restricted the opponents at 196 for seven.

The West Indian duo Lendl Simmons  (68) and Kieron Pollard (49)  gave a fight to the RCB challenge but lacked partners which was needed for them to reach the target.

Simmons smashed three sixes and five boundaries in his knock.

Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each for RCB.

Earlier, it was Kohli and AB de Villiers, who are considered to be two of the best known batsmen in the world of international cricket, destroyed the Mumbai attack as they put up a mammoth total on the scorecard.

AB butchered the Mumbai bowlers in his unbeaten 59-ball knock. He smashed 19 boundaries and four sixes in his knock.

Kohli joined AB after Chris Gayle (13) departed as both added 215 runs in the second wicket partnership.
