After putting up 622/9 dec, Indian bowlers restrict Sri Lanka at 50/2 at stumps

Colombo, Aug 4 (IBNS): Two quick strikes by Indian spinner R Ashwin kept Sri Lanka under pressure as the home side scored 50 runs for the loss of two wickets at the end of second day's play here on Friday.

India declared their first inning at 622 runs for the loss of nine wickets and then went to give Sri Lankan batsmen some tough times for the rest of the day.

Ravichandran Ashwin (54 off 92), Wriddhiman Saha (67 off 134) and Ravindra Jadeja (70 not out off 85) added some brilliant runs late as India wen past the 600-run mark to put tremendous pressure on Lankan batting line up.

However, overnight centurions Cheteshwar Pujara (133) and Ajinkya Rahane (132) failed to add much runs.

Experienced Rangana Herath picked up four wickets for Sri Lanka.

Indian bowlers came down on the field with a purpose.

Dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne (25) and Upul Tharanga (0), India's R Ashwin gave a perfect start to the innings.

Dinesh Chandimal (8) and Kusal Mendis (16) remained at the crease and prevented Sri Lanka from facing further loss.

India are 1-0 up in the series.
