Anxiety over Messi's future as his Barcelona contract ends

| @indiablooms | Jul 02, 2021, at 03:57 am

Barcelona/IBNS:The six time Ballon d' Or award holder and iconic Argentina footballer Lionel Messi's contract with FC Barcelona ended, leaving room for doubt over his future.

As per media reports, the footballer might just continue to play with the Catalan club.

Joan Laporta, who was elected as the club's president, said "don't worry" when asked about Messi's future might have led to that belief.

Loporta added that he was optimistic about the star player renewing his deal with the club.

Messi's future has remained a question mark for soccer pundits post his attempt to leave Barcelona at the end of the 2019-2020 season which was eventually rejected by the club bosses.

The top reason that might have added to his earlier decision could be the dreaded loss at the hands of Bayern Munich of 8-2 that has also been considered to be both club and Messi’s biggest losses in the last year's Champions league.

As the club leadership has changed with Laporta at the helm of club affairs after the resignation of Josep Bartemeu and with new coach- Ronald Koeman's appointment; Messi's decision could be easier and the reversal of his last year thoughts.

Reports in the media claim that the ex-Barcelona president Bartomeu was at odds with Messi.

The current season brings a string of positive signs as Messi led his team to claim the title of Cop del Rey by scoring 30 goals.
