China's goalkeeper had no chance as India took an early lead in the final.
Savita's big save keeps India ahead
China quickly increased the pressure and earned a penalty stroke in the 24th minute after Lalremsiami was penalised for obstructing a Chinese forward.
Bichu Devi had started in goal, but experienced goalkeeper Savita Punia was brought on for the crucial penalty.
Savita kept her composure and dived to her left to make a superb save, denying China their clearest opportunity of the match.
India went into half-time with their 1-0 advantage intact.
China turn up the heat
China dominated possession and territory after the break, repeatedly testing India's defence and earning penalty corners.
India's defenders remained disciplined under pressure, with Ishika Chaudhary, Baljeet Kaur and Sushila Chanu among those making crucial interventions.
Captain Salima Tete also made an important defensive contribution despite briefly leaving the field after picking up an injury.
China continued to threaten, but India refused to give them the opening they needed.
India hold firm in tense finale
With around five minutes remaining, China removed their goalkeeper and sent an additional outfield player onto the pitch in search of an equaliser.

The pressure intensified, but India's defence stayed organised. The players cleared the ball repeatedly, won crucial loose balls and held their shape as China threw everything forward.
The equaliser never came.
When the final hooter sounded, Indian players dropped to the turf and embraced each other in celebration. After decades of near misses, the gold medal was finally theirs.
First Women's Hockey Gold since 1982
India's previous and only Asian Games women's hockey gold had come in 1982. They later reached the final in 1998 and 2018, but finished with silver on both occasions.
There was no repeat of those disappointments in Nagoya.
The 1-0 victory not only ended India's 44-year wait for the continental title but also secured direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Lalremsiami provided the breakthrough, Savita delivered the crucial save and India's defence stood firm when it mattered most.
After 44 years, India are Asian Games women's hockey champions once again.
