Dubai: India won the toss and opted to field first against Pakistan in the high-voltage Asia Cup group stage match here on Sunday.

Creating a big surprise, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma went ahead and named veteran Dinesh Karthik as the wicket-keeper ahead of regular Rishabh Pant.

Sharma said at the toss: "Having played here for a few years now, I thought having a score in front of us would be a good option. There is some grass covering and we want to exploit it. Rishabh Pant unfortunately misses out, we got out with Karthik. Avesh is the third seamer."

In the last encounter between India and Pakistan during the World T20 last year, the Men in Green had defeated their arch-rivals.

Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka in the first match of the Asia Cup on Saturday.
