Asian sub-junior Sport Climbing Championship begins

Jamshedpur/IBNS: The three-day Asian sub-junior Sport Climbing Championship began on a colourful note with about one hundred athletes from nine countries staking their claim for the top honours at the artificial climbing wall in J R D Tata stadium here on Friday.

The participating countries include Kazakhstan, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong China, Malaysia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines and host India.

This is the first time  this event, known as Asian Kid Championship, is being held in India which has been  organised by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation and IFSC-Asia- the Asian unit of International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

The championship is being held for two categories - under 13 and under 11 years both boys and girls in three disciplines - Lead , Speed and Bouldering.

The event has been formally inaugurated by Tata Steel Corporate Services Vice President Chanakya chowdhury in presence of  Secretary General of IFSC Asia Rasip Isnin, Chairman of National Sport Climbing Committee under Indian Mountaineering Foundation Keerthi Pais and all the participant's.

While the qualifying  rounds are being held Friday, the finals will be held on Dec 10 and 11.
