Bulan Academy lifts Umbro Cup

Kolkata, July 14 (IBNS): Bulan Academy has lifted the Umbro Cup recently at the Gitanjali Stadium in Kolkata.

The Kolkata leg of the inaugural edition of Umbro’s 5-a-side football tournament, “Umbro Cup”, concluded on July 13.

The Umbro Cup, launched this year, is concurrent to Umbro’s global commitment towards the development of football and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.

The tourney held at the renowned Gitanjali Stadium witnessed 768 players competing across 5 categories, namely, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Open and Corporate categories.

The winners of the Under-16 category, Bulan Academy received the coveted Umbro Cup from the hands of Ananta Kumar Ghosh (the Coach of Mohan Bagan), the Chief Guest for the evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Ananta Kumar Ghosh, Coach of Mohan Bagan & Chief Guest, said, “This is a good initiative from the part of  Umbro to promote football. They are promoting the most encouraging factors for the players with these competitions, to exhibit their skills. I feel very happy that 96 teams participated in this 2 days competition. This is the need of the hour at this World Cup juncture.”


“At Umbro, whatever we do, we do it with our heart and soul and we will continue to support football at the grassroots level in India. We aim to make the Umbro Cup bigger in the forthcoming years and enable more and more young footballers to showcase their talent. We hope to see kids from the Umbro Cup go on to represent the country,” said Ajay Chablani, Business Head, Planet Sports.
