Chris Gayle smashes 104, helps Kings XI Punjab beat Sunrisers Hyderabad

Chandigarh, Apr 19 (IBNS): Chris Gayle's thundering hundred runs knock helped Kings XI Punjab beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs in a group stage match of the Indian Premier League here on Thursday.

Kings scored 193 runs for the loss of three wickets and then Sunrisers were restricted by the hosts at 178 runs for the loss of four wickets in the match.

Gayle, who showed a touch of his thunderous form in the last match, unleashed the big hitting batsman in him when he hammered unbeaten 63-ball 104 runs in the crucial knock he played in the first half of the game.

Gayle destroyed the opposition, smashing one boundary and 11 sixes in his innings that left the spectators entertained.

Apart from Gayle, Karun Nair scored 31 runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and Kaul picked up a single wicket each in the match for Sunrisers.

Later, Kings bowlers restricted the opposition batsmen at 178 runs.

Skipper Kane Williamson (54) and Manish Pandey (57*) remained the top scorers for Sunrisers.

Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh contributed unbeaten 24 runs with his willow at the end of the innings.

Mohit Sharma and Tye picked up two wickets for Kings. Skipper R Ashwin gave away runs without any success.

He gave away 53 runs in his four overs.
