CLT20 announces life ban of spot-fixing tainted Lou Vincent
It was found that Vincent (the New Zealand batsman) attempted to corrupt two matches involving the Auckland Aces during the October 2012 CLT20 played in South Africa by entering into agreements with a bookmaker for financial gain.
Six charges related to Vincent’s conduct in the 10 October 2012 match between the Aces and Hampshire at Centurion and 15 October 2012 match between the Aces and Kolkata Knight Riders at Cape Town.
He faced a further charge from his conduct during the 2011 CLT20, where he failed to report an approach from a bookmaker.
The serious nature of Vincent’s actions justified imposing the longest possible suspension under the CLT20 Code of Behaviour.
Meanwhile, the disgraced batsman in a statement earlier said: "My name is Lou Vincent and I am a cheat. I have abused my position as a professional sportsman on a number of occasions by choosing to accept money through fixing."
According to New Zealand Herald, Vincent is becoming the first New Zealand professional sportsman to receive a life ban.
"The punishment will tonight be meted out by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), after Vincent admitted to 14 counts of match-fixing while playing for Lancashire and Sussex during county cricket's limited overs competitions," it reported.
