Mumbai, Apr 2 (IBNS): Former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag and the rest of the nation went back in the pages of history as he revisited the day when India won the World Cup in the 50 overs format in 2011.

The final match in Mumbai witnessed some intense moments and classic batting display from former skipper MS Dhoni.

Remaining unbeaten at 91, Dhoni hit a massive six to ensure India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets to lift the trophy after 28 years.

India rejoiced the historic moment of becoming World Champions for the second time since Kapil Dev and his men had won the title in 1983.

Several former cricketers on Sunday joined the rest of the nation in looking back at Apr 2, 2011 when Dhoni gifted to the nation one of the most cherished moments in the history of Indian cricket.

Sehwag tweeted: "6 years ago #OnThisDay,Dhoni finished it off in style and we as a Team lived a dream & won the World Cup,the best memory for this generation."

Another former cricketer Mohammad Kaif posted: "What a night it was at the Wankhede . Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni led india to an unforgettable victory and we won the World Cup at home."

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra said: "Dhoni sealed it with a six...six years ago, on this day, India reclaimed the World Cup after 28 long years. Memories for a lifetime. Proud."
